John 20:1 says, “Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.” Mary Magdalene set out in the darkness, in the stillness of the morning, shrouded in the fresh pain of the death of Jesus, who had been buried in the tomb. Jesus, who is likened to light, even called the light of the world, had already risen from the tomb, which Mary would soon find out. As the sun rose in the darkness, it provided warmth and light to those traveling in it. Upon encountering the gospel, we receive a glimpse of this light, which warms us, holds us, and gives us hope eternal, the first moment I believed, how deeply it resonated within my soul. I set out in this world shrouded in darkness, but now I focus my eyes on the light that rises before me.
